Chernoff Newman’s new hires strengthen agency’s social and digital expertise – Chernoff Newman

09.01.2011– COLUMBIA, S.C. – Chernoff Newman, a full-service integrated communications firm specializing in advertising, public relations, digital and marketing, announces the addition of four new employees in its Columbia, S.C., offices.

Sarah Derreberry joins Chernoff Newman’s Columbia, S.C., office as a public relations specialist with an emphasis in social media. She was formerly a brand reputation manager with integrated marketing agency, Sullivan Higdon & Wink in Wichita, Kan. providing strategic public relations and social media outreach for local and national clients in a diverse set of industries including: agriculture, banking and tourism. A 2006 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in journalism and mass communication, Ms. Derreberry also completed an internship with The Wichita Eagle. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and twice served as a member of PRSA Kansas board.

‎Tim Kelly has more than two decades of experience in public policy, government affairs, strategic communications and public relations and returns to Chernoff Newman’s Columbia, S.C., office after spending some time as a free-lance public relations and social media consultant and writer. From 1995 to 2006 Mr. Kelly served as a public affairs strategist at Chernoff Newman working with a diverse range of clients, including: energy and public utilities, health care, education, tourism and entertainment. In his new role, Mr. Kelly will focus on developing social and new media strategies for clients in addition to providing overall strategic communications expertise.

Carl Henderson has been hired as a back-end web developer in the Columbia, S.C., office. Mr. Henderson earned a B.S. in technology support and training management from the University of South Carolina with areas of focus including: project management, computer networking, ASP.NET web development and training/instruction. His experience includes PHP, HTML, Javascript, ASP.NET, CSS and server optimization and management. In his new role, he will focus on server security and optimization to ensure Chernoff Newman clients get the most out of their web presence while losing the least amount of data.

Megan Old joins Chernoff Newman as a media buyer with a specialty in online and multi-platform advertising. A 2000 graduate of Ohio State University with a B.A. in journalism and political science, Mrs. Old began her career in broadcast as an associate producer for WSYX-TV (ABC 6)/WTTE (Fox 28) in Columbus, OH. She quickly made the transition to advertising working at Ron Foth Advertising in Columbus, OH, as part of the account services team for accounts such as Saks Incorporated and Wendy’s International. Since 2002 Mrs. Old has worked as an account executive for key/major accounts in media sales first at The News-Press, a Gannet owned media company in Fort Myers, FL, and most recently at The State Media Company, a McClatchy property, in Columbia, S.C., where she developed skills using Yahoo! behavioral targeting, search engine marketing and email targeting for major business leaders such as Palmetto Health and SCE&G. She has been the recipient of a number of awards including, the Rookie of the Year and Online sales Executive of the Year by The News-Press, and most recently was named the multi-platform account executive of the year by The State, which is a distinguished award given by the publisher for excellence in advertising sales among all categories including print advertising, online advertising and specialty publications. She is actively involved in the community as a member of AAF of the Midlands and a fundraiser for the American Heart Association and American Lung Associations’ Fight for Air Climb in Columbia, S.C.
